Meet Michelle!

Hello!  It is so nice to meet you!

My love affair with photography began when I was a kid. I always had a camera in my hand, and it was my way of avoiding being on the other side of the lens!  Around 2009 I decided to hang my shingle and launch my business.  Gray Dog Pet Photography was born.  Soon after, I launched Michelle Turek Photography.  I have had the privilege of working alongside and learning from some of the best in both the Pet Photography and Wedding Photojournalism industries. I am a member of the Professional Photographers of America and devote time each year to continuing my education in Photography to be able to offer my clients the best experience possible.

I am a farmer’s daughter, born and raised in Upstate NY. I hold a BS degree in Agricultural Economics and Horticulture from Virginia Tech.  Most of my adult years were spent in Central Virginia which I call my second home.  I have a camera and passport, and love to travel anywhere for a photography assignment.

Some interesting facts (that is why you clicked on this right?)

  • I love peach pie (with gluten free crust, of course)
  • My boyfriend is a pilot, and my job is to help with the radio and buttons when we fly….I’m working on my license currently too.
  • I love working out—TRX training, cycling, and some weights. (Really, I work out so I can eat and drink wine.)
  • I worked at Epcot–Walt Disney World for a semester in college growing hydroponic vegetables.
  • I love to give and receive hand written notes in a world that has been overcome by technology overload.
  • I accomplished my first half marathon in Maui, January 2014. (Training took 12 weeks—I literally went from 0 miles to 13.1—and I learned it really is mind over matter!)  I just finished my second half at Virginia Tech! Go Hokies!
  • Coffee is my friend–I especially love Americanos.
  • I do not like clowns. They scare me.
  • Countries I have visited are: Ireland (3x), Iceland, Bahamas, and most recently Cuba. I recommend them all! New Zealand and Poland are next on the list.
  • I love Weimaraners.
  • One of my favorite movies is “The Blind Side”.  “Wedding Crashers” is a close second.
  • I have an appreciation for agriculture that is deep within my soul. I can drive a tractor and a forklift.  I can also ice our sweet corn trucks.
  • I sit on the Board of Hospicare, an organization that helps comfort those that are nearing the end of their life. The place is special to me because they were a second family when my Grandpa was ill.
  • I am a Def Leppard, Whitesnake and REO Speedwagon groupie. Ok, Heart too, and some Journey. Surprised you didn’t I?!

Thank you for stopping by!  I would be honored to document a little piece of your life.   xoxo, Michelle
